Description
White Bear Lake Area High School recently underwent a $226 million renovation, with the school’s final addition being a new 845-seat Performing Arts Center. This space was finished in November and hosted it’s first 3 events in December of 2024
The center spans 37,000 square feet and features an main theatre with a custom Diva Shell and Maestro acoustic ceiling panels. “We’ve got the orchestra ceiling pieces … then the orchestra shells themselves butt right up against them. So, once it’s all set up in here, it literally is its own room.” says Theatre Technical Director Jeff Willey.
“The students have been working very hard and are looking forward to making music together on stage. It is an absolutely beautiful space, and we are so grateful to the White Bear community for their support and their investment in the arts,” said White Bear Lake Orchestra Teacher Katie Henderson.
The high school renovation also came with an update to the interior music suite of the high school. The department was outfitted with a Wenger Music Library, as well as equipment such as Nota® chairs, a Conductor’s podium, and UltraStor® cabinets. SoundLok® Practice rooms were also installed in the new music suite, adding dedicated space for rehearsal.
The center also features a two-level entrance with an ADA lift as well as an industrial laundry room for costumes. “The WBLAHS Music and Theatre Departments are elated with the transformation…” says music teacher and Fall musical director Wendy Suoja. “The students, instructors, and community members are so lucky. Walking into the space makes me feel connected and valued in our schools.”
